Role of educational programs in management of patients with medication-overuse headache

Patients with primary headaches are prone to frequent uncontrolled use of analgesics, leading medication-overuse headache (MOH). One the most accessible and effective strategies for its prevention is informing patients about potential danger development. For this, training programs («schools») conducted. Objective : evaluate effectiveness educational in management MOH prevention. methods . We included 120 (12 men 108 women, mean age: – 46.3±3.54 years, women 41.3±9.5 years) MOH. The follow-up period was 12 months. First, were divided into two groups depending on clinical diagnosis: group I (n=44) chronic without MOH, II (n=76) Then, each randomized subgroups prescribed therapy. All participants underwent repeated examinations questionnaires assessment at 1-, 3- 12-months follow-ups. In addition, all kept a diary. An «school» developed this study held those where specified. Results discussion observed significant decrease Headache-Attributed Lost Time (HALT) Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) scores (р<0,05) combined drug therapy, compared programs.
